EXTRAORDINARY BREASTFEEDING STORIES
MARINE'S BREASTFEEDING JOURNEY
For World Breastfeeding Week (in France), we continue to give a voice to moms whose breastfeeding stories always touch our hearts. Today, we meet Marine, mom to three-year-old Olive. She shares her journey, where patience, experimentation, and love were key to success—especially when every challenge opened the door to new possibilities. 🤱

UN DÉBUT D'ALLAITEMENT TOUT EN DOUCEUR... OU PRESQUE.
Marine’s breastfeeding story began in the summer of 2022. Nursing started smoothly: Olive was a “greedy baby,” always latched onto her mom. Very quickly, however, Marine noticed that something wasn’t quite right, especially with the frequent spit-ups. After consulting a healthcare professional, the verdict came: Olive’s tongue and lip tie were too short. A frenectomy was recommended, and Marine and her partner agreed.
Yet, the procedure didn’t solve the problem. As Marine says, “the geysers continued,” but she refused to give up. She then consulted a lactation consultant, tried eliminating lactose, and experimented with different nursing positions. In the end, it was an unexpected tool that made all the difference: the baby carrier—particularly nursing in an upright position—which finally soothed Olive.

BACK TO WORK, FINDING A NEW BALANCE…
When Marine returned to work after a few months, a whole new chapter began! She started pumping between meetings and work sites: “I’d go from site to site with my freezer bag under my arm,” she recalls.
And the little ones noticed too: “The kids at school would often ask me what I was putting in the fridge, they loved when I told them it was Olive’s milk.”
Despite busy days, Marine kept up the cherished morning and evening feeds, a ritual she continued to share with her daughter. After 7 or 8 months, Olive even said her first word: “Titi.”
Almost naturally, this marked nearly two years of breastfeeding adventures for Marine and Olive. And when Marine began to feel the fatigue of nursing, she was patient, wanting weaning to come from Olive, not herself.
One evening, Marine read the book Les Baleines Allaitent Aussi (Whales Breastfeed Too), written by Alison, and that’s when the magic happened: Olive whispered, “Mom, I’m big now, it’s over, Titi.” In that moment, Marine felt ready too.
“If I had to do it all over again, I’d do it exactly the same,” Marine concludes proudly.
