How did it all start?

Our production story began a few years ago, in the spring of 2018, when we started working with an agent in northern Portugal. At the time, there were only four of us, but we had a clear vision of our goal: to create high-quality, durable, and practical products while respecting the environment. 🌳

Given the technical specificities of our products, our work became a true area of expertise, which led us to hire our first two employees: Pauline and Justine. With their arrival, we were able to expand our product range to include clothing for women, children, men, and more. This allowed us to market over 100 products in 2021 and test new items and materials to meet the needs of our customers. 🤰🏽

We still carry out around a hundred product developments per year today, spread across several launches. As a general rule, we release one collection per month. Our production team now includes five people.

Justine is Head of Production and ensures that every step of the process is carried out efficiently. Marine and Fanny work alongside her to support the organization and coordination of production. 💻

Pauline is in charge of the collection, she’s responsible for researching inspiration and creating the collection plans. She follows each product from concept to market launch and also takes part in the collection photoshoots. 📸

Hélène oversees styling, ensuring that each product aligns with the brand image and the vision for the collection. 🍌

Finally, Clémentine is our pattern maker/product technician. She prepares and sends out technical files to suppliers and ensures that each product meets our expectations. 📒

Quality and practicality have always been at the heart of what we do. That’s why we’ve put rigorous processes in place to guarantee that each item meets the highest standards of quality and safety.

This is also why we’d love to organize a video call with you—to answer all your questions and show you just how passionate we are about our work and the creation of quality products. 👌🏼

The key stages in developing a new product

Our production process is a cornerstone of our company. It enables us to create high-quality products that align with our ethical and environmental values. We follow a 5-step process, from product creation to delivery—including supplier sourcing, product development, and launching production.

1️⃣ The first step is product creation.
Our creative team, made up of Alison (the founder of Tajinebanane), along with Pauline and Hélène, looks for inspiration and materials to develop a collection plan. This is a crucial phase because it sets the direction the collection will take. ✍🏽

2️⃣ The second step is supplier sourcing.
We select our suppliers based on strict criteria, such as European production and their commitment to complying with our specifications, which are drafted in collaboration with Intertek, an independent quality agency. We work with suppliers based in Italy, Bulgaria, France, and Portugal—each country brings its own expertise, which is what we’re looking for. For example, we produce all our jersey items in Portugal and our knitwear in Italy. 🏭

3️⃣ The third step is product development.
Our product technician sends detailed technical files to the selected suppliers, including everything from composition and embroidery to printing and measurements. We then receive a first prototype, which we try on, measure, and test to ensure it meets our expectations. There may be 1 to 3 iterations per model. Generally, if the third prototype still doesn’t meet our standards, we cancel the model. 👚

4️⃣ The fourth step is launching production.
If the prototype is validated, we produce a pre-production sample to confirm sizing across all sizes. We never launch full production without seeing these pieces. Meanwhile, we place orders for the validated models and receive fabric samples from the production batch to check material conformity. If the pre-production sample, material sample, and accessories are all approved, we greenlight production. It takes about 5 to 8 months to produce our collections. ✅

5️⃣ Finally, the last step is delivery.
Before any goods are shipped, we receive samples to ensure they meet our standards. Once the products arrive at our warehouse, we conduct a quality check through random sampling. This stage is essential to ensure that the final product meets both our expectations and quality standards. 📦

In conclusion, our 5-step production process allows us to create high-quality products while staying true to our ethical and environmental values. We’re proud to work with suppliers who meet strict standards and to carry out a thorough quality check for every item delivered.

What are the key steps in making a cotton t-shirt?

Making a cotton t-shirt involves specific and meticulous steps to ensure a final product that is high-quality, durable, and comfortable. Each of these steps is essential to ensure the end result meets customer expectations.

1. Selection of raw materials:To make a white cotton t-shirt, it's essential to start with high-quality raw materials. Cotton can be grown in many countries and exists in numerous varieties. Depending on the needs of the final product, it's important to choose a quality cotton that will be comfortable, soft, and durable. ☁️

2. Dyeing the yarn:The raw cotton yarn is then dyed in the color of the final product. 🧵

3. Knitting the jersey:Once the yarn is dyed, it's knitted using a specialized machine. The jersey must be knitted at the right density to ensure it is durable, comfortable, and pleasant to wear. 🪡

4. Creating the pattern:The t-shirt pattern is created either on paper or digitally, based on standard measurements for each size. 👚

5. Cutting the jersey:The jersey is then cut according to the pattern, carefully following the grain of the fabric. This step is important to ensure the t-shirt has the correct size and shape and to minimize waste. ✂️

6. Assembly:The different parts of the t-shirt (sleeves, collar, front, back) are assembled using specialized sewing machines. The seams are carefully made to be strong so the t-shirt can withstand movement and repeated washing. 🧼

7. Finishing touches:Once assembled, the t-shirt goes through a finishing process to remove excess threads and small imperfections. The seams are also checked to ensure they are perfectly straight and durable. 🪡

8. Labeling and packaging: The t-shirt is then labeled with information about the size, composition, washing instructions, etc. It is then folded and packed in a recycled and recyclable polybag, ready to be shipped to stores or customers. 📦

9. Photoshoot and online launch: Our products are sold worldwide to support your breastfeeding journeys and families, anywhere. anytime.
