Face à la mère

She carries a belly like a full moon, and a heart that feels far away. But all it takes is a simple “come back” and everything returns.

The waves that wash over her ankles. The sun and sea salt warm the skin. The arms that cradle, and the words that comfort.

I carried you, protected you, the way an island carries its palm trees,  and deep within my chest, I promise you this:
